Why the Megahome Distiller?
The reason why I chose the Megahome water distiller is due to it being more efficient at removing VOC’s than most of the other distillers on amazon except for the H2olabs brand which appears to be a duplicate of the Megahome. the only difference I could find was the label. The specs looks and even container for the distilled water were identical.
What are VOC’s and why are they bad?
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are chemicals that both vaporize into air and dissolve in water. VOCs are pervasive in daily life, because they’re used in industry, agriculture, transportation, and day-to-day activities around the home. Once released into groundwater, many VOCs are persistent and can migrate to drinking-water supply wells.
According to the EPA there can be negative health effects.
Health effects may include:
- Eye, nose and throat irritation
- Headaches, loss of coordination and nausea
- Damage to liver, kidney and central nervous system
- Some organics can cause cancer in animals, some are suspected or known to cause cancer in humans.
Why did I pay more for the Megahome vs cheaper competition?
The Megahome was 289.00 and a Co-z branded lookalike cost is only 129.99 so why did I choose the Megahome? The Megahome uses a heating element rated at 580 watts and the lookalike uses a heating element that is rated for 750 watts.
The Megahome takes 5.5 hours to distill a gallon of water. The Co-z only takes approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes to distill a gallon of water. It would seem that I am making the case for the Co-z branded distiller but I am not.
The Megahome has a full stainless steel boil chamber, dome, and condensing coils. It is UL listed. Passes the strict safety guidelines for electrical appliances. Temperatures only get to a little over 212 degrees which is optimal for distilling water and removing VOC’s more efficiently. Also with the lower temperatures and lower heater output the unit should last longer.

Why Distilled Water is the Healthiest Water for your Body
Benefits of drinking distilled water will hydrate and replenish the body that is 60-70% water. As distilled water travels through your body it absorbs inorganic minerals that have built up in the joints and organs over the years, flushing them out of your body.Your body will feel lighter, healthier and have a lot more energy.
The people that claim distilled water leaches minerals from their bodies are both right and wrong.
Right, it will leach harmful inorganic minerals and toxins from their bodies.
Wrong, distilled water will not leach vital minerals and nutrients from their bodies.
Appliances
Distilled water also is good for your kitchen and bathroom appliances. My Navage requires distilled water. Review to come later for Navage. The Ninja coffee maker we have no longer gets tank stains and the ultrasonic humidifier also requires distilled water.
Personal experience
I chose the Megahome distiller and am very happy with it. I have distilled over 1,100 gallons of distilled water with it and will continue to use it. So far reliability is phenomenal!
There is some maintenance involved with any distiller that is doing its job. All of the garbage that is taken out of the water will build up in the boiling chamber. You can use citric acid powder to clean it out or even just use some white vinegar. The other item you will be using is the carbon post filter that is changed out of the spout about every two months.
You can get a package of 36 megahome filters which will last 6 years. I have tried the cheaper ones and they did not hold up and ended up with little bits in the water.
I have also purchased some glass gallon jugs to hold the water I have distilled.
So which countertop distiller will you choose the Megahome, H2olabs or the Co-z distiller?
Even if you don’t choose one of these countertop distillers, distilled water is good for you and your appliances.
